My father was a pastor when I was a child. I remember him always talking about an Attitude of Gratitude.
I always thought that was his way of telling me to stop complaining! But now that I am an adult and I have a child of my own I think I get it.
Watching my daughter, Morgan do… pretty much anything creates this attitude. I am astonished at how blessed I am as a father and how much I learn by watching her just eat! Literally.

Morgans 2nd Bday
I have always been a student of life and particularlly a study of people. Im that creepy guy at the mall watching people interacting, analyzing and avoiding each other. But to see a minnie version of yourself taste green beans for the first time or decide “I dont like walking around with a dirty diaper”. “I think I’ll take this off and leave it on the floor…” is nothing short of extrodinary.
Now I know those of you without kids are saying “Geesh it cant be all that amazing.” I know I used to say the same. But I assure you. It is truly that amazing.
So what makes everything they do so amazing? After taking into account that she looks like my evil side kick midget (sorry. little person) Mini Me and that at the core of human conscience is our ego AND of course that we are all convinced that we created a super human with our DNA I have boiled it down to one main reason.
GRATITUDE
Think about it. How many times have you heard this phrase? “awww to be a child again.”
Think for a second about a time when you had that thought or heard that phrase. What was the common denominator in every one of those instances?

The Best Gift Ever
A boy sitting for 2 hours banging the crap out of a pot with a spoon or spending hundreds of dollars on presence for Christmas only to watch your daughter play for DAYS with a box that a toy came in!
Children are so inherently grateful for the smallest things. A rock, water, dad falling off a curb! You get the point.
No matter how stressed I am and convinced that I am in trouble the MINUTE I sit on the floor with my daughter my entire perspective changes. Why is that? Why is it medically proven that dogs, cats and children help alleviate stress, fear and depression and even increase ones ability to heal?
While I am sure there are many reasons I truly believe that being and interacting with a creature that is so grateful is infectious.
Next time you pet your dog watch the satisfaction. It costs nothing but time to make some one feel important and its even cheaper to feel gratitude.
It just requires a change of perspective.
Hey. Maybe we should all get a box to leave in our office so we can sit in it and get that new perspective!
Thanks again Morgan for the life lesson and thank you God for delivering it through my little girl.
